Kakheti

KakhetiRegistered December 10, 2007

A regional appellation rather than a single micro-zone: the Alazani and Iori basins in south-eastern Georgia, 11,300 km². The Tsiv-Gombori range splits Kakheti into Inner and Outer; the Alazani valley runs 160 km and varies from 5 to 40 km wide. The wine is a dry white from Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane.

Authenticity

No known authenticity issues

Kakheti (Kakhuri) is a broad regional PDO covering Georgia's main eastern wine region, allowing several styles — dry white, amber (qvevri), rosé and red — from grapes such as Rkatsiteli, Kakhuri Mtsvane and Saperavi. As a wide regional appellation its supply broadly matches the zone and it carries no notable authenticity concern; the wine should come from the registered Kakheti zone.

The exact spot is not in open data — the region is highlighted.
