About the variety
Budeshuri Tsiteli, 'red Budeshuri', is an old eastern Georgian variety that growers also call Shavi (black) Budeshuri. It is first of all a table grape, standing out among the region's table varieties for its handsome bunches, but its wine is harmonious with a pleasant aroma. It ripens mid-season on vigorous vines, matures its canes well and has fair resistance to fungal disease and moderate tolerance of winter frost and drought. It is a different variety from Saperavi Budeshurisebri, the 'Budeshuri' of Kakhetian labels, and from the white Tetri Budeshuri. Rarely planted today; Tedo's Marani bottles it as a varietal wine.
