Simonaseuli

Simonaseuli is a rare red variety from Kakheti, presumably named after the grower who spread it. The berries are dark violet, almost black; the vine is of medium to strong vigour and ripens late, in the second half of September, at 20–28% sugar and 7–8.8 g/l acidity. It makes dry red table wine of good quality — deeply coloured, medium-bodied and harmonious, with a distinct varietal aroma. Today it survives in a few Kakhetian vineyards, such as those of Tchotiashvili in Saniore, as a varietal and in blends.
