Inner Kakheti, the middle Alazani — the strip between the Chermiskhevi and Papriskhevi tributaries, on the Tsiv-Gombori slopes and the second terrace of the Alazani plain. Vineyards lie at 350–700 m, in the middle and upper parts of the villages of Akhasheni and Chumlaki. Saperavi here gives a red naturally semi-sweet wine.

Akhasheni is a naturally semi-sweet red PDO from the Gurjaani municipality of Kakheti, made exclusively from Saperavi with natural residual sugar.
