About the variety
Aleksandrouli is a red variety from Racha, grown mainly in the Rioni valley. It accumulates sugar readily — for semi-sweet wine the grapes are picked at 26–28% sugar — and together with Mujuretuli it makes the naturally semi-sweet Khvanchkara PDO. Picked at lower ripeness, it is made as a dry red; its wines are delicate, with raspberry and cherry aromas.
