Geography
Appellations on the map
Where each zone is. Twenty-eight zones are shown with their border: the colour tells the authenticity risk, grey marks zones with no wines in the catalogue yet. For the rest, the dot marks the village or locality the appellation is named after, and its size shows how many wines of the zone are in the catalogue.

The map
Pick a layer, then a place.
Appellation borders are not published as open data: for zones without an outline the dot marks the village or locality the name comes from, and its size shows how many wines of the zone are in the catalogue. Twenty-eight zones have outlines. Twenty-six are traced from the maps in the zones' current specifications published by the National Wine Agency: the maps carry a coordinate grid, georeferencing relies on it, and accuracy ranges from ten to a hundred metres depending on the map's resolution. For Bolnisi and Okami the specification map shows the municipality itself, so its border is taken from OpenStreetMap. Kotekhi is traced from the map in the Sakpatenti bulletin “Appellations of Origin of Georgian Wine” (2010), georeferenced on OpenStreetMap villages and accurate to a few hundred metres. Khvanchkara is traced from the Georgian Wine Club regional map (“Georgian Wine Infographics”), georeferenced on fourteen villages and accurate to about a kilometre. These are illustrations to the zone specifications, not legal boundaries; zones legitimately overlap — Mukuzani covers Akhasheni and Vazisubani. The sand colour is Racha's viticultural district from the Georgian Wine Club map; the pale backdrop shows the winegrowing zones traced from the National Wine Agency map.

Where the dots come from, and how precise they are.
Exact address
The dot stands on the place itself: the producer or an open source gave the coordinate, and a person checked it. Unchecked points never reach the map.
Village point
The yard is not established: the dot stands on the village and is drawn as a ring. When several producers work from one village they share the dot, and its card lists them all.
Basemap
OpenStreetMap via OpenFreeMap: the tiles come from their servers, as with any web map. Basemap data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
What is not on the map
Opening hours — we do not collect them, so check with the producer. Visits and tastings are shown only where confirmed; elsewhere it says “not established”.
Layer sources
- Wineries — coordinates from the producers themselves (the Natural Wine Association catalogue) and from open sources.
- Vineyards — OpenStreetMap outlines (ODbL), and for Kvareli and Lagodekhi the Ministry of Agriculture land-use survey; district hectares and grapes — the 2025 vineyard cadastre of the National Wine Agency; district borders — geoBoundaries.
- Appellations — outlines from the zone specification maps of the National Wine Agency, the Sakpatenti bulletin and Georgian Wine Club: illustrations to the specifications, not legal borders. Backdrop — wine-growing zones from the agency's map.
